Do you sell Kumquats?

We love trying new foods. However, we hate going on a scavenger hunt, trying to locate them in the grocery store. After going to three local groceries and receiving confused looks from the workers, we finally found the item on our list - kumquats!

This fruit looks like a baby orange. Even though they are tiny, they pack a punch of flavor! You can eat the skin, but spit out the seeds. We used kumquats in two recipes.

First, for our New Years Eve dessert, we thinly chopped and tossed kumquats into our ricotta tart. We found this recipe on Martha Stewart's site, and it turned out quite nicely. It wasn't an overly sweet dessert. It was creamy and savory. Check out the recipe here (and compare my picture with Martha's!):http://www.marthastewart.com/314259/ricotta-tart-with-chocolate-and-kumquats

In an attempt to start the new year off on a healthy note, we used the remaining kumquats as a topping to muffins. I found this recipe from a Pinterest blogger. The muffins sounded semi-bland, so we decided to top them with mini chocolate chips and kumquats to amp up the flavor! It worked beautifully.

Here's a picture of the muffin recipe, taken from my phone. They are really easy to make. And healthy snacks to eat throughout the day.

Guess what we are on the hunt for now? Duck fat.
