The BIG Reveal

FINALLY, we have crossed the finish line on our kitchen remodel! What a long, tiresome trek it has been! We have worked diligently over the past two and half months, and now we have a beautifully updated kitchen. Also, we have a sweet sense of accomplishment; we tackled many many projects together. And we're still in love.

Here's a brief rundown of what we changed-- painted the walls and trim work, purchased and installed new appliances and the under-mount sink, painted all the cabinets, hired professionals to install the granite countertops, added hardware to the cabinet doors (also painted the existing cabinet hinges), and tiled the backsplash. Whew. I need a nap.

We walked away from this experience learning a grand list of things! Should we ever need to remodel again, here are a few tips that will be remembered...

1. Keep the receipts. All of them. Even for nails or extra paintbrushes. You may need to return an item. And all those "small" items add up quickly!
2. Don't try to complete a whole kitchen remodel in a weekend, or a week for that matter.
3. Paint takes forever to dry, especially when it's cold in your garage paint booth.
4. Don't purchase appliances from Sears. Our entire customer service experience with Sears was a failure! They will not be receiving our business again.
5. If buying a new refrigerator, measure your space very carefully. From all angles.
6. Home Depot closes at 9pm!

Enough explaining. Are you ready for the proof?

BEFORE

In this picture, the walls have already been painted from a bright green to a misty blue. I did not like the  the misty blue, so Ian re-painted the whole kitchen again. Now, it's a lovely wheat color. Bless his heart; he is such a patient husband.

Here is the original paint scheme

You can see misty blue versus the wheat color (look at the light switch)

Goodbye Green!

Time to grout our stone backsplash. Surprisingly, tiling wasn't so awful.

So much of a project's success depends on the way you prep

AFTER

I spy granite

Who would have guessed what a difference hardware can make? It's a simple, cost effective addition!
