A friend of mine recommended a product called RUST-OLEUM Cabinet Transformations. After seeing pictures of his kitchen upgrade and listening to his rave reviews, Ian and I researched this a little more. We were impressed with all the positive feedback- no sanding or priming required and a non-yellowing finish. Also, the price tag was right up our alley. For $75.00, the cabinet transformation kit came with a de-glosser, the paint, more paint for a decorative glazed finish (we didn't do), and a protective coat sealer to cover our entire kitchen! It also came with an easy-to-follow instructional video. Watch the video if you use this product!
RUST-OLEUM offers a great selection of colors: Cabinet Color Choices
We went with "Federal Gray". It looks gray in the direct sunlight and turns a little more blueish under artificial light. The color is dark and rich, and the product covered our cabinets beautifully. Well, Ian painted the cabinets perfectly. He knocked this project out mostly by himself. I went on a 4-day trip and came home to a freshly painted kitchen!
We also purchased new hardware, which cost more than painting our cabinets! Of course, I wanted handles (needed two drilled holes) verus one simple knob. Ian measured with precision, and the handles now give our cabinets a more updated, polished finish.

A quick Video of the kitchen during this phase of remodel. Notice the wooden spice rack to the left of the oven (when the video ends)? I'll explain how Ian fixed that later...
