Upgrading Furniture

Over the next few years, I want to transition our home furniture from "college collection" to well made pieces. 

First, I saved and sold on eBay until I could buy a beautiful new bed for our room. It just arrived a few days ago! But now we have to purchase a king size mattress. Any mattress advice? There are so many options.
