CrossFit

I know everyone has been on the edge of their seat waiting for my much anticipated first blog post!

Well, here it is!  Other than painting kitchen cabinets, living in airports, and falling through the garage ceiling, I was finally able to join a crossfit gym.  It's something I've wanted to do for 5 years or so but with my amount of time away from home, it hasn't been worth the cost.  Thanks to Michelle's awesome negotiating skills, she was able to get me a 15 use punch card at CrossFit South Charlotte!  It's not something they normally do but she explained our schedules and they are happy to let me attend as I can and keep buying the cards.

Crossfit isn't your typical gym.  This is how they explain it on the website:

"CrossFit describes its strength and conditioning program as “constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement," with the stated goal of improving fitness, which it defines as "work capacity across broad time and modal domains." Workouts are typically short—20 minutes or less—and intense, demanding all-out physical exertion. They combine movements such as sprintingrowingjumping rope, climbing rope, flipping tires, weightlifting, carrying heavy objects, and many bodyweight exercises; equipment used includes barbellsdumbbellsgymnastics ringspull-up barskettlebellsmedicine balls, and boxes for box jumps. These elements are mixed in numerous combinations to form prescribed "Workouts of the Day" or "WODs". Hour-long classes at affiliated gyms, or "boxes," typically include a warm-up, a skill development segment, the high-intensity WOD, and a period of individual or group stretching. Performance on each WOD is often scored and/or ranked to encourage competition and to track individual progress."

It's not for everyone, but I really enjoy this kind of workout.  The kind you almost want to throw up afterwards.  I miss that no break, high intensity feeling I had in rowing and swimming during school, so this is a lot of fun!
