I justified my latest change in plans by claiming to be "inspired". I was Pinterest inspired. Yup, I suggested to Ian that we start a new project instead of working on the bathroom remodel.
Last week, I saw black french doors on my favorite television show and on my Pinterest feed. I saw these pictures all in the same night. I took it as a sign. A sign that we needed to paint our french doors black. And that we needed to paint our fireplace the same coordinating color.
After three days of tedious paining (thank you Ian), we now have "Mark Twain Gray" (pretty darn close to black) french doors and a white stone face around the fire. This project has given our space a much needed update; I'm absolutely in love with the results! It's kinda inspired me to go back and finish that bathroom.
Let's reference a few BEFORE pictures. This was in July. Look at all that dark wood paneling on the french doors! As a house warming gift, Ian's mom and stepfather had professionals paint ALL the trim work in our house! This was such a HUGE help in changing the feel of our home. So notice how the crown molding, baseboards, and trim are painted white in more recent pictures.... what a difference, yes?
And now a BEFORE of our fireplace. You can scroll through the transformation pretty quickly. Just notice that Ian removed and sanded down the curly-q wood detail on the front. He also took down the gold bar and chain drape. We worked on the white stone surround together. It was not a fun project. But it got finished and turned out great. It was worth the headache for sure.
