Hello, Halfway Point!

Ever since completing the drywall portion of our remodel, we've been moving at a steady pace. With half the work finished, it's all down hill from here......right?

So last week we were waiting on a plumber to fix our bathtub faucet. But ain't nobody got time for that! Seriously, dealing with contractors has to be the most frustrating part of remodeling. That's why Ian just does it out for us.

Ian solved not only the bathtub faucet dilemma, but he also figured out how to make IKEA plumbing (European/metric measurements) compatible with US plumbing! Why doesn't IKEA just include an adapter with its merchandise?! Guess that'd make too much sense. Well, a quick google search revealed many other DIYers were troubled with this same situation. After a few extra trips to the hardware store, my little plumber of a husband had everything hooked up. No leaks either! Amen!

Let me recap what Ian accomplished in three short days (I helped a tee-tiny bit)...

  • Fixed the bathtub faucet
  • Sanded, primed, and painted the wood panels in the front of the bathtub
  • Custom designed a secret access door to the plumbing for the bathtub
  • Tiled and grouted bathtub surround
  • Installed two new light fixtures
  • Finished drywalling/painting the ceiling (he hates drywall patching on the ceiling!)
  • Installed a new toilet, sink vanity, and medicine cabinet
Now we just have to build our shower and add all the finishing moldings and door frames.
Cake. Piece of crumb cake!

Faucet hook up fixed. Backer-board installed before adding penny tile.

Original pine wood planks were sanded and re-installed. Ian made a secret access panel for the bathtub plumbing.

The secret access panel. Ian created a magnetic fitting for the planks.
Cool, huh?

Planks were primed and painted. Molding still has to be added.

After the penny tile dried overnight, we got out the grout!

Have we mentioned how much we love grout? Ha.

Ian taught me how to install a toilet. Romantic, eh?

After some intense measuring, Ian cut a hole in his brand new drywall.

The hole in the wall is for a new light fixture. He hooked up the wires and ...

the new light fixture looks lovely above the medicine cabinet!

IKEA cabinet. We love the space it provides and how quietly the doors close.

IKEA sink, faucets, and vanity fit perfectly in our new bathroom.

A pretty profile, showcasing our progress.
